Cooling Foods for Summer

Updated: Aug 18, 2020

It is tempting in the summer time to eat those great spicy foods like salsa, garlic and Tex-Mex cuisine. Right now, our Texas grocery stores are celebrating hatch chili season!

Did you know that spicy foods make the body warm both inside and out? So if it is 98 degrees outside and you are eating spicy foods it is definitely not a win-win situation.

Too much heat in the body can cause the following issues:

  • Skin rashes

  • Rosacea

  • Heart Burn/Acid Reflux

  • Indigestion

  • Dehydration

  • Anger/Irritability

  • Inflammation in the body and joints

  • Constipation and diarrhea

Foods that can cause too much heat

  • Citrus fruits-this does not include lemons, so keep drinking that lemon water ;)

  • Spicy foods

  • Salty/Fried/Oily foods

Yummy foods that cool the system. Yes, summer provides a load of seasonal cooling foods.

  • Watermelon

  • Kale

  • Asparagus

  • Peaches

  • Plums

  • Collard greens

  • Hibiscus water, Mint water, Cucumber water

  • Spices-Cumin, Tumeric, Fennel, Corriander

  • Cool water

Stay cool! Turn down the heat with good diet choices
